When you starting singing?
I started when I was around 11
Tell us the brief history of your singing career. ?
I was in a rock band named “Brothers in Arms”, which we started when we were in the 11th grade. We came first in a talent contest and that’s when we decided to form a band as we got along well. We did several shows in Kathmandu, appeared in local concerts, performed at bars in Thamel. And recorded our first ever single “Can’t Stop”. Then we did a metal rap song called “Death Da’ Truth”with Rappaz Union. Sammy from Rappaz Union encouraged me to carry on as a solo artist after most of my band members went abroad and our band got split. |

Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
I’ve always been interested in poetry as I write my own songs. I’ve always found Laxmi Prasad Devkota very influential. I feel that his life style itself had a deep connection with literature, a very interesting life style to write on. Similarly, Jim Morrison kinda resembles Devkota in lot of aspects too, so I like him too. Besides that, Axl Rose has always been my favorite vocalist; his screeching voice just thrills me.
What are your dreams and goals?
Ofcourse as a musician I dream of becoming a rock star. My goal as of right now is to become a financial analyst. They’re completely contrast to each other, but I guess that’s just me.
Who writes the songs and what are they about?
I write all the songs myself and compose them too. I feel that nobody else can understand my songs better than myself and thus I love composing the songs myself too. They’re usually about the interesting life that we live and definitely about love.
How do you promote yourself & shows?
Since I went to Nepal and released my album and came back in a month, I didn’t have time to promote myself with a lot of shows or interviews there, except for a few. Over here, I haven’t done much but sang in different Nepali programs, in college and at bars occasionally. I’ve so much been occupied with my studies here.
How do you feel when you’re on the stage?
I actually feel like I’m the king of the world in that moment. I jump around, hehe run around on the stage. It all excites me and that’s my way of expressing my joy in singing.
What do you think about downloading music online?
Downloading has made it so much easier to all the listeners, but definitely hurt the music companies and discouraged them. If you are downloading illegally think twice and “Just say NO to Piracy like you say NO to drugs.”
What's your outlook on the record industry today?
I think they’ve been doing very well these days. People love songs more than they used to I guess. I’m very optimistic about the Industry.
What’s your claim to fame?
If you got the talent and you are hard working then you deserve to be famous. You just need to be heard.
Tell us about your musical journey and success?
Well, it all began as a band. I used to be the vocalist, song writer and played guitar. Well coming first in a talent contest when we were in college was a big thing to us during that time. Then as a band we probably performed in about 15 to 20 shows. And in the states here, I came first in a singing competition at my college. That was quite a big thing for me, as I was the only Nepali taking part in the competition, competing against all the Americans. I sang an English song and still managed to beat all of them. I think that was quite a bit of success. But I’ve never enjoyed competition in music, ‘cause music is an expression of your feelings and not all of us necessarily have similar taste.
Tell us about your album and your video?
My album’s called “Samaya” and it’s got 7 songs, 1 of the songs is in English and the rest are in Nepali. The video that hit the market was titled “Samaya”, which did pretty well and also got nominated for the Hits FM awards. My second video is called “Prashna”, which is coming up shortly, we’ve already shot it and got it ready, and I’m happy about how it came out
What live performance experience have you had?
Well I’ve done over 50 shows, most of them with “Brothers In Arms”, some with Rappaz Union, as we had done a few metal rap songs with them too and rest with other bands that I worked with. Live performance is what thrills me the most, like I said earlier “I feel like I’m the king of the world when I’m on stage”.
How do you describe your music to people?
My music is more of a blend of Rock and Pop. As I have worked with several rock bands, I’ve always considered myself to be a rocker but probably I’ve got some amout of “Pop” in me too and that’s how my company promotes me as.
How has your record label helped you promote and how did they first react to your album?
SAV ( Samjhana Audio Video) is my record label company and they’ve been awfully great. I went to talk to the company with Sammy. When we first took my album to them, Mr. Raman Shrestha, the Director and Founder of the company was who listened to it first and made me sign the contract right there after he listened to the first song.
What do you think are the leading roles the nepali music artists staying in US are playing for the promotion of nepali music?.
All of us know that we’ve got quite a big number of Nepalis here, we should all try and get together, and perform shows all around the country. Doing concerts is how we can promote the music.
