In 2004 Zulu Cocunuts were playing around but due to musical differences and circumstantial predicament’s the band split, leaving Bijay and Robin recording and writing together. Sidartha whom Robin knew and had a separate project between the two going on, was asked to try out for the Bijay and Robin sound. It just so happened that the three were locked, stocked and loaded with the groove thus the name theBhainkers suited perfectly for the trio. Bijay had mentioned about a eccentric bloke in his Boulder circuit of friends to texture theBhainkers sound with some scratches and spins. Pranav a.k.a level came for the tryouts and since then mind, matter and music of the quartet has been ever expanding.
The Bhainkers are:
Bijay - Perc, Drums, Tablas and Vocals
Sid - Guitars and Infinite Wisdom
Robin - Bass, Vocals and Melodies Galore
Pranav - a.k.a Level - Turn Tables and FX
People curious about theBhaninkers sound, we humbly want to mention our influences, which have enormously infected our music fomenting it like a fine Boudreaux. Bands like The Rolling Stones, Sex pistols and The Clash. Depeche Mode, Portishead, Radiohead, Spacehog and Oasis and in the American side Alice in Chains, Bad Brains, Ministry, MC 5 and the driving beats of hip hop such as Kool Keith (Dr Octagon), Wu Tang Clan, GhostFace Killa, Eyeda, DJ Shadow, DJ Qubert, hip hop breaks and samples (Stone throws) and independent labels.
Last but not least melodies from nepali and indian classical, pop, rock and folk music ( R.D Burman, Jagjit Singh, Remo Fernandes, Naryan Gopal, Gopal Yanjan, Aruna Lama, Namaste Band, Rai ko Ris ) and many more of which we haven’t mentioned has much to do with our sound and we are very thankful for their legacy's. We believe we have managed to come out with some eclectic music, which we hope you all will enjoy.
